About

speed.new measures your internet connection the moment the page loads — no button, no ads — and publishes which provider is actually fastest where you live.

What makes the comparisons different

Our provider rankings are medians of tests people really ran, not advertised rates. A place appears only once it clears a k-anonymity threshold: 20 tests on a provider for a city, 50 for a single postal code. Below that we roll up to a coarser area and say so on the page. We never interpolate a number to make a page look complete.

Rankings are ordered by measured median download. They are not ordered by any commercial relationship, and they will not be — the moment that changed, the data would stop being worth citing.

Why latency gets equal billing

Most speed tests report two big numbers and stop. The measurement that predicts whether a video call holds up is latency while the connection is busy, which is why we measure it under load and grade the result. See methodology for exactly how each number is produced.

Privacy

We store no raw IP addresses. Postal codes are counted into aggregate cells and never written to an individual test record, so no stored row can be narrowed to a household. Details are in privacy.

Using our data

The API is free to read and rate-limited. If you quote a figure, link to the page it came from and say which date range it covers.
